Sherpas Summiting Mount Everest In A First For The Season: An eight-member group of Sherpas summiting Mt Everest today, becoming the season’s first team to scale the world’s highest peak in Nepal, a media report says.

The group, including rope-fixing Sherpas, reaching the south summit around 8 am and then opening a route to the peak from the Nepalese side around 3:30 pm, the Himalayan Times reports.

Now, more than 240 climbers along with their high altitude workers can make their summit pushes on Mt Everest after the rope fixing team opening the route, says Iswari Paudel, Managing Director at Himalayan Guides Nepal (HGN) Pvt Ltd, the expedition organizer.

The team including Pasang Tenjin Sherpa, Pasdawa Sherpa, Lakpa Dendi Sherpa, Jen Jen Lama, Siddi Bahadur Tamang, Pemba Chhiri Sherpa, Tenzing Gyaljen Sherpa and Datuk Bhote, the report says.


Expedition Operator Association Nepal has assigning HGN to fix the ropes on Mount Everest this season, it says.

Paudel says the Sherpas has left the Camp IV two days ago and facing inclement weather that causing a delay in the rope fixing work last week.

Liaison officer Gyanendra Shrestha says over 500 climbers from across the world including 247 expedition members have already completing acclimatization rotations and will attempting scaling 8,848-metre peak this season.

At least three different teams will begin the summit which is attempting on Monday, Shrestha says, according to the report.
